So What Wednesday

Once again, I'm linking up with Shannon for So What Wednesday.

So What Wednesday

This week I am saying So What to...

  • So what that my kids don't have school and while I had full intentions of doing fun things with them daily, it hasn't happened yet.
  • I've been leaving the house around Parker's nap time so that i don't have to fight w/him to take a nap. He has always gone to sleep in the car and it just makes naps possible every day.
  • It's rainy...that makes me stay home more.
  • I had 2 cups of coffee yesterday.
  • I always wear jeans 2 days in a row...well unless the kids get something gross on them.
  • I rarely make the beds. When they are made, the kids destroy them therefore, it's a waste of time. They even destroy the guest room bed; I make it, they tear it up. It's a vicious cycle.
  • I got 2 new followers and almost peed my pants from excitement. Maybe I'm really not THAT boring.
  • There are things that I don't post on my blog for the simple fear that who I am venting about may come across it. no thank you.
Not too many so what's this week. Go over and link up! What are you saying SO what to?

Tummy Tuesday

I don't really have a lot to report about this week. My belly is definitely growing and I definitely look pregnant; that 'fat' stage didn't last very long. I stepped on the scale this morning and almost fell off; no, I didn't lose my balance. My next dr appt is next Thursday and I'm trying not to think about it although, I am anxious about it. Yesterday, I decided that I was going through toys and cleaning some stuff out/throwing stuff away (it looks much better in here, but I have more to do) and was successful. I think I did too much because I was crampy all afternoon. I guess that's what happens when a person goes from not doing much to rearranging/moving stuff.

Big Boy Room

I finally got around to taking pictures of the boys' room. Let me just say that it's not very easy to do this with 2 very active little boys that want to jump from bed to bed and make the beds look messy.

Saturday Rant

Let me start by saying that I am thrilled that I am pregnant again and are completely blessed and excited that our family is going to grow. Party of 5 here we come!

Now....I have gained almost 10 pounds already (I gained 25 and 28 respectively w/my other two kids). It's a combination of going from clean eating to carb eating, going from hardcore, kick my butt workouts to no workouts. This is k.i.l.l.i.n.g. me. My butt is growing at rates I didn't know it could grow. My sanity suffers. My mental health suffers. I need my workouts. They are my 'drug' of choice. Nothing is better than a runner's 'high', that sore 'OMG I did something yesterday' feeling is awesome. I love when I scratched my thigh that it was firm, not flabby. Being so much more sedentary is not good for my body, mind or soul. I know that there are many, many people that do not work out, even more that do not eat clean but that was/is not me. I have always used exercise as my outlet and not being able to have that outlet is so hard for me. I also do not want to have to lose 40-50 pounds after this pregnancy. How will I make/find the time for exercise after this baby is here. I know, I know, if it's important the time is there. I know that and I tell people that. I make time for my photography, my workouts, cooking clean healthy meals and snacks. I always have. I know that adding one more after having 2 (well, I've heard) is really not that big of a deal. I don't even know where I'm going with this, I just need to vent. I want to add that if my dr tells me no exercise at my next appointment, I will ask why. I will ask if I can swim (which I hate) or do water aerobics (with the old people). If she gives an explanation and tells me no exercise, I will 110% listen. I also know that this weight gain is temporary but damn it weigh is hard to lose and it gets harder every year.

My plan...Right now, I can't exercise. light walking does not equal exercise to me. I can choose to go back to my clean eating ways. That does not mean I will count calories (I didn't anyway). It does mean I will eat more complex carbs, more fruit/veggies, more lean protein. It means I will not eat as many refined (white) carbs. I will limit sugar (which makes me feel terrible after I eat it, any explanation there?). I will not drink coffee without sugar but I will use sugar free (whatever the pumpkin spice isn't sugar free). Ok, I won't cut the sugar out of my coffee or creamer. I'm going to do my best to eat better; it's what I need to do for my body, to combat unhealthy weight gain.

Friday FIVE

This week's Friday Five is more serious than playful and it's ok. I'm allowed, right? This week's FIVE...five organizations that you'd like to bring more awareness to...see it's deep.

1. Domestic Violence. I grew up in an abusive household. My step father was physically and emotionally abusive (never sexual abuse, thank God).  It killed my esteem, skewed my outlook on men and relationships, had me terrified for my mother's life more than once. Some stats on domestic violence (taken from http://domesticviolencestatistics.org/):
  • Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten.
  • Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Most often, the abuser is a member of her own family.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
  • Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.
  • Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if presented with a breakup.
  • Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
  • Ninety-two percent of women surveyed listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assault as their top concern.
2. Stalking. I have never been stalked but it is, hands down, the thing that terrifies me most.  I recently came across Morgan Ingram's story and found myself consumed with the details concerning her stalking and murder. I think that, while stories like this are hard to read, awareness is KEY.  Some stats about stalking (taken from http://www.stalkingawarenessmonth.org/awareness)
  •  3.4 million people over the age of 18 are stalked each year in
    the United States.
  • 3 in 4 stalking victims are stalked by someone they know.
  •  30% of stalking victims are stalked by a current or former
    intimate partner.
  • 10% of stalking victims are stalked by a stranger.
  • Persons aged 18-24 years experience the highest rate of
    stalking.
  • 11% of stalking victims have been stalked for 5 years or more.
  • 46% of stalking victims experience at least one unwanted
    contact per week
  •  1 in 4 victims report being stalked through the use of some
form of technology (such as e-mail or instant messaging).
  • 10% of victims report being monitored with global positioning
systems (GPS), and 8% report being monitored through video
or digital cameras, or listening devices.
3. Mito Disease: Mitochondria exist in nearly every cell of the human body, producing 90 percent of the energy the body needs to function.  In a person with mitochondrial disease, the mitochondria are failing and cannot convert food and oxygen into life-sustaining energy.  For many, mitochondrial disease is an inherited genetic condition, while for others the body's mitochondria can be affected by other environmental factors. One of my dearest friend's son has mito. It's a sad disease. Some Mito Stats (taken from http://www.umdf.org/site/c.8qKOJ0MvF7LUG/b.7934639/k.C416/FAQ8217s.html)
  • Every 30 minutes, a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by age 10.
  • Each year, 1,000 to 4,000 children in the United states are born with a mitochondrial disease.
  • In adults, many diseases of aging have been found to have defects of mitochondrial function.
  • These include, but are not limited to, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, atherosclerotic heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. In addition, many medicines can injure the mitochondria.
4. Child Obesity. I am very anti-media for my kids. They don't sit around and watch tv (although they watch their fair share). My hubby and I don't have any games on our phones for the kids, we don't have an ipad and they don't play games on my computer. We also don't have any "kid" tablets or video games. We go outside and play; we learn about sports and they are just kids. I eat fairly healthy (especially when I am not pregnant) and my kids do too (as well as a 2 and 3 year old can, I suppose). Yes, they have had fast food but it's not something we do daily. I exercise and set healthy examples for my kids with the hopes that my example will lead them to a healthy lifestyle as they grow. Some stats on child obesity (taken from http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/obesity/facts.htm)

 5. Abductions: Again, never been abducted and haven't had to live that nightmare with my kids and pray I never do. I recently read an article about "tricky people". Teach kids about tricky people instead of stranger danger. It really opened my eyes to a new way to explain the dangers to my kids and as they grow, this will be how I teach them about strangers. Some stats on child abductions (taken from http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=2810)

  • Nearly 800,000 children younger than 18 are missing each year, or an average of 2,185 children reported missing each day.
  • More than 200,000 children were were abducted by family members.
  • More than 58,000 children were abducted by nonfamily members.
  • 115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnapping. These crimes involve someone the child does not know or a slight acquaintance who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently.
These are serious topics and things that really make me think. Some of them have directly affected me and my family but some have not and they are just things that terrify me to my core. I try to be aware of my kids and where they are as well as what and who are around me. I don't think that I'm paranoid but just aware. I took several self defense classes in college and learned a lot about criminal psychology in those (they were taught my a cop and forensic scientists. What I learned really stuck with me.

So, link up if you'd like. I'd love to see where your passions lie.

Water fight

Every night when J gets home from work, the kids run outside and steal the hose from him. I'm sure you wondering why he has the water hose...well, he's just watering the plants. Some nights, he fights with them about it and others, well, they have a water fight. Parker loves to be in control and refuses to let anyone touch the hose. He sprays Conner, tries to get me (even if I have my camera) chases J and wets his own head. To say it's a fun time is an understatement. Conner always winds up crying b/c he can't get the hose from Parker but it's all still fun.

So What Wednesday

Once again, I'm linking up with Shannon for So What Wed.

So What Wednesday

So what...
  • if I write these on Tuesdays and schedule them to post on Wed. I know I look like I've got it going on...you're all fooled! Now you know my secret.
  • My hair now feels like straw...I need to do something about that.
  • I already scheduled an appt w/my hair guy...I will not stay this dark...even though I don't hate it anymore.
  • I refuse to get an elective ultrasound b/c I will look for banding and read way too much into it. I want one though.
  • I think I'm huge already but that doesn't stop me from eating...nom, nom, nom.
  • I'm exhausted all.the.time. it's terrible.
  • I'm beyond frustrated w/blogger and godaddy. I pay for something and it doesn't work so I don't use it. I need to cancel/get a refund.
  • My regular clothes already don't fit. oops...again, I still eat.
  • I will probably have a lot of weight to lose...I need to get that under control.
  • I love candy. and Taco Bell.

Let's compare...

I was asked for comparison photos. I don't have 14w with Conner but I do have 15...I was stupidly doing bare belly but really it has to be because nothing was really there/visible just yet.

Here's me pregnant with Parker...14w2d...again, nothing really there so bare belly? clearly I was insane.
And again for good measure...14w...HUGE. ^^^those pants...yea, they don't fit me these days...scary! :)

The Disappearing Act

Up until a few days ago, my belly was part of a disappearing act. I would go to bed looking pregnant and wake up and could hide it easily. I think that the belly has decided the magic shows are not fun. I can honestly say I am in shock at how huge I am already. I didn't look pregnant until 24w or so with Parker...now 10w earlier I am obviously pregnant! Insane...must be a 3rd baby thing (or maybe it's a girl). I'm still feeling little kicks and that's always super fun. Conner is more and more interested in my growing bump. Last night he asked if the baby was squishy, when I asked him why he thought that, he said that it's because my belly is a little squishy. I told him it will get harder and when the baby gets bigger he can feel him or her kick. He really liked that answer. Parker doesn't really understand and when I ask what I have in my belly, he usually says "candy". Every now and then he will say baby though.

I'm still having a hard time with the whole no exercise thing but I'm getting more used to the idea. I went to the nail salon for a mani/pedi yesterday. It was much needed and so nice. I need to do that at least monthly!

Here's the belly :)

Mud

Anyone that has toddlers know that they love mud. Anyone that has toddler boys know that they attract mud. Yesterday, the boys decided to make a mud puddle...and boy did they! They used the spot where our redneck pool used to be. They loved it; it was funny and gross and they smelled like cows (I mean that spot had a pool over it for 3mos).
