>A little late

>I'm a little late on this but we hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. It was great to be able to spend time with Josh's family. Conner enjoyed his first Christmas; he loved being held all day. He was very good despite his nasty cold. I had a nasty cold and he got it. I hope that he gets over it as quickly as I did. I wish I could say that I took tons and tons of pictures, but I didn't. I do have a few though. We got a new camera and it's great but we really don't know how to use it yet. I still have to play with it and figure it out. Here is a quick slideshow!

We're still packing for our move. I'm a huge slacker in that dept. We are moving tomorrow. We still have a lot to do. Conner is still sick with that cold. My poor baby. He is just not comfortable. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

>Happy Birthday Grandma

>Tomorrow is my mom's (grandma) birthday. I was telling Conner today that we had to make sure her gift was extra special. He started "talking" and smiling. I broke out the camera and he hammed it up. I couldn't believe how smiley he was, but he knows that grandma really wants to see a smile. Just for Grandma's birthday...

Happy Birthday! We love you!!!

>Weekend News

>When I taught, every Monday, the students would write their weekend news for morning work. Well, it's not morning but I figured I'd share my weekend news.

Friday, Conner was extremely fussy and nothing worked to help him calm down so I called the pediatrician and described him to them. They had me bring him in. The good news is that he is a growing boy! In a week and a half, he gained 14oz. Yes, almost a pound. He is 8lb 14oz now. The bad news is that he has mild reflux. Instead of starting him on medications right away, she wanted me to try the following things at home: 1. Elevate the head of his bed. 2 Keep him upright for 20 minutes after each feeding. 3 feed more often (seriously, he's every 2 hours) and burp him more often. I'm doing all of those except for feeding him more often. I think 2 hours is often enough. I have also cut out dairy. I'm hoping that will help him. I cut out the dairy on Saturday and so far I'm ok with it. His reflux seems to be doing a little bit better. He has not spit up in almost 24 hours; which is great. Now,if I could only get him to sleep for longer periods of time.

Saturday my sister (Katie) and her roomate (Bri) came for the weekend. They came to hang with little man and help me pack a little bit. Saturday that is what we did. Josh worked and we packed and played with Conner. He sure loved all the attention and kisses. Saturday night, we all went out to dinner. Rusty (our brother) and his wife (Janice) joined us. Conner did great at dinner. I had to nurse in public (OMG) at the resturant. It was ok though. I am definitely going to get a hooter hider now. I don't like the blanket thing.

Yesterday we took Conner to the pottery place to make Josh's Christmas gift. He said that he wanted Conner's little hands and feet on a bowl. I decided that a plate would be much better. Conner and I decided on the right size plate and then we got some paint. He was asleep when we started. I guess the paint and paint brush tickled too much b/c he woke up screaming. Did I mention that this child does not like to be woken up? It took all three of us to get his hands and feet on the plate. He had a meltdown and it's a good thing I was prepared with a bottle (at the last minute, I decided to pump). I'm very glad Katie and Bri were there to help me. It wouldn't have gotten done any other way.

For your viewing pleasure, some pics.

>we smile now

>I don't have real proof in the form of photos(I blame my slow camera), but Conner is smiling! It's oh so cute and I love it.

Conner is already a little over 6 weeks old. He's almost outgrown his newborn sleepers. He loves to roll over and to take a bath. He is such a snugglebug, which makes the rough nights worth it. Yes, we still have rough nights. This kid wakes up evvery 2 houts to eat. He just won't miss a meal. We've been busy helping Josh pick stuff out for the new house. Conner hates his carseat so that makes going anywhere very interesting. He just screams and screams. It breaks my heart, but there isn't a thing I can do. He has to sit in his carseat.

>Thought I'd update...

>Conner is asleep and I thought I'd update my newly neglected blog. So many things are going on here. I'm adjusting to motherhood; although I don't know that I'd use the adjective gracefully or beautifully. The dark circles under my eyes are far from beautiful. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I'm definitely enjoying my little guy and he's growing. I can't believe that next week he will be a month old. It's crazy how time has flown. I'm not going back to work; and I am so happy about that. We are actually moving. Josh wants to be all moved in to the new house by Christmas and that is such an added stress. He's really going to have to do a lot of the packing. I'm not interested in leaving C with anyone so that I can pack/move. Not to mention the amount of pumping I'd have to do so that my kid could eat. He prefers the real thing over the bottle anyway.

Let me just tell you about the house. It's a cute little traditional house. It's white with black shutters. It has a 2 car attached garage and a one car detached garage (Josh loves this). It's 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. It sits on almost an acre. Right now it needs some love (work), but we won't move until it's all done. It's primarily carpet, paint, countertops and vanities and tile in the bathrooms. New light fixtures need to be installed and then it's done.
Here's a pic I stole of the house. I need to go take before pics so we can compare the progress.

>It's been a while..

>I can't believe that our little man is already 2 weeks old. It has already flown by. We are adjusting to parenthood rather nicely and we enjoy Conner every day; even on the fussy days. Not a lot of exciting things have been going on. Today was the first day I took Conner out alone. I haven't really left the house and I'm ok with that. I had a chiropractic appt this morning and then we went to Target. He screamed the whole time. I had to take him out of the carseat at Target and carry him through the store while keeping up with the cart. I nursed him in the car before we went in thinking that he would be OK. He's been a bit gassy so here I am in Target with this screaming infant trying to open the gas drops as fast as I could. I gave him the drops and he was FINE. He actually fell asleep. He's been sleeping for a little more than an hour and a half.

He likes to sleep during the day. Our nights are busy. We are up every 2 hours. He likes to eat and is such a little piggy. Evidently breastfed babies eat more frequently; he is no exception. I wondered if he was getting enough and read that if they have frequent wet/dirty diapers then they are good. Well, I have the poopiest baby alive. This child poops more than I ever thought possible for a baby. Speaking of diapers, I have to go change one. Here's Conner at 2 weeks.

>Introducing Conner Arthur

>Conner decided to make his debut on October 28, 2008. He weighed 6 pounds 5 oz and was 19 inches long. He's such a cute little peanut. We just love him to pieces.
Here is my birth story...it may contain too much information...

Monday, October 27 I had my weekly ob appointment. They checked my blood pressure and weight (I gained 4 pounds in a week) and sent me on my way. Everything was fine with baby and so I was good to go. I had intentions of doing a lot of things on Monday but I was exhausted from our long exciting weekend (Rusty got married). I decided that I could just put off those items until the next day. Around 8pm my contractions started to get more painful and I noticed they were frequent; we decided to time them. I sat on my yoga ball. I happily watched TV and timed contractions. 9:04 my water broke. I was sure of it. Either that or it was a lot of urine. I called my mom and then called the ob. She told us to go ahead and go into the hospital. Off we went. When we got there she checked me and I was only one cm dilated and 60% effaced. They tested my water and said I needed to go home that my water had not broken. I was so utterly confused because I was still leaking.
We went home and I remembered what Dr. Angus said about "true labor". Take 2 Tylenol, drink 24 oz of water, take a shower and go to bed. True labor would continue, false labor would be "cured". I took his advice and around 2:30, I went to bed. I was up at 4 with some pretty painful contractions that did not go away; they were coming every 4 minutes. I called the OB again and by 6 we were readmitted. I was checked and was almost 3 cm at this point. I was exhausted so I was given a shot to help me sleep for a few hours. I slept for about 3 hours. Of course, the contractions woke me up. I labored all day long. I did not want the epidural at all. My labor and delivery nurse, Kathy, was amazing. She was so respectful of my wanting no medical intervention unless it was necessary. The OB came in with a portable ultrasound machine to check my water. Sure enough, I was right and it had broken. Conner's head had trapped 2 small pockets when he descended into the birth canal so it didn't all come out but she was not going to be able to break it. Around 3 Kathy came in to tell me that my contractions had become too spaced out and they wanted to give me pitocen. I told her that I didn’t want it b/c I knew I was too exhausted to deal with the painful contractions that pitocen causes. I told her that if it was necessary to have the pitocen then I wanted an epidural too. I knew I didn’t have the energy. All I knew was that I felt like I needed to push. She called for the anesthesiologist and in he came. She was about to check for progress when he came in. We decided to wait and he did his thing and then she checked. I was at 10cm ready to push. I was so pissed at myself. I found out that I wouldn’t be able to deliver right away because the ob was in another delivery. The epidural was working so I took a 45 minute nap. It was what I needed to push. The ob came in and they turned off my epidural. I pushed for an hour and there he was. During the pushing, his heart rate deceled twice and she had to tear me to get him out. The cord was wrapped around his neck. The nursery staff looked him over and he was great. He didn’t cry the way they wanted him to but eventually they got all of the mucus out and he showed them his screaming abilities.
We stayed at the hospital for 48 hours. They wanted to monitor Conner's blood becuase my water had been broken for so long. We were very happy to come home.

>No more bedrest!

>I had my weekly appointment yesterday and the OB took me off of my medications and put me on decreased activity. I can definitely tell that the medication was working because I've had lots more contractions since I stopped taking it. They haven't been strong ones at all but they are there. I have a huge fever blister and it is driving me insane. Lucky for me, the nurse at the ob's office called me in something and it is getting better.

Last night, Josh put in the new closet organizer for the baby. I really love it; now I have my work cut out for me. I have to put everything back in there. I was going to do it today but so far I haven't gotten around to it. I did get a lot of it done last night but I have tons of clothes to go through and sort.

I had maternity pictures taken by Jody on Monday and I can't wait to see how they turned out. She takes such amazing pictures. I can't wait for the baby to get here so she can take those too.

This weekend is a big weekend for us. My brother is getting married! Several people from my family are coming into town and I can't wait to see them.

My hospital bag is packed and ready to go. Josh needs to put the carseat in the car and we are all set.
