>What a week!

>Last week started out normal until I got to my doctor appt on Monday. My blood pressure was elevated so I had the blood panel completed for pregnancy induced hypertension. Thankfully, all of that came back fine. I decided that I needed to take off Tuesday so I did. I went to work on Wednesday and noticed some pressure really low with cramping. I made sure to guzzle a ton of water. I don't know if they really went away or if I was so distracted teaching. I stayed late on Wed to get a jump start on my spelling plans for maternity leave. I got home and noticed a few cramps nothing major. After dinner the cramps started coming again. Little did I know, I was having contractions. They started out 20 minutes apart, then 15, then 13 and once I had 3 in 20 minutes, I called the on call doc. He told me to take a warm bath (which actually sounds great right now) and see what happened. I followed directions and the contractions went from 7 minutes to 20 minutes apart. I went to bed after timing 3 of them. When I got up to pee, they were still 20 minutes apart. I thought I was good to go. Thursday I got up and was happy that I didn't feel anxious anymore. I ate my fruit and yogurt (as my first breakfast) and off to work I went. I barely got in the door when I started throwing up. I threw up once and then went to find the principal. She gladly got me a sub and told me to call my ob. When he called back, he instructed me to come in to the office. I hung up with him and started throwing up again. nice, huh? When I got to the office, they did an internal (fun, fun) and I learned that my cervix is effacing (thinning). They put me on the NST monitor to monitor contractions. I had 3 in 20 minutes so off to labor and delivery I went. Josh met me there. I was definitely scared. The baby is not big enough to be delivered yet. Well, technically he IS but I don't want to have to leave him at the hospital. They put me on an IV and set me up to their monitors. In an hour I had about 8 contractions, so they gave me terbutaline. The first dose worked great until it started to wear off, so they gave me another shot. At this point, I had already had enough of shots/ivs/needles. They moved me to a permanent room b/c we were spending the night. I was hooked up to the monitors all night with interruptions for this medication. Let me just say, the medication may work but it sucks. It makes me feel like a crack head or something. I am very jittery and it makes both of our hearts race. Friday, the dr came in to see me and looked over the contraction printout. They took some more blood, she ordered an ultrasound to check the baby and off she went. It was fun to have another ultrasound. Our little guy weighs 3.5 pounds and looks great. He handles the contractions like a champ. He's head down, so that is good. A few hours later (6) we were released from the hospital. I was sent home to bed rest with a bottle of pills.
The bed rest sucks but it's for the good of this baby that is constantly beating me up from the inside. I have another appt tomorrow to get checked again. I don't imagine that I'll be released from bed rest but it would be nice if I were on limited activity. I'm not holding my breath though. The medication works but the last hour before a new dose, the contractions start again. This baby needs to stay where he is for a bit longer.
